چکیده

The association between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) homozygosity and measles antibody levels was assessed in a volunteer group of 242 children. Serum samples were tested for measles IgG antibodies, class I and class II HLA alleles were typed, and associations were examined between HLA homozygosity and antibody levels. Children who were homozygous for at least 1 locus were twice as likely to be seronegative (odds ratio, 1.97; 95% confidence interval, 1.08-3.61). Children who were homozygous at >/=1 loci were increasingly likely to be seronegative (chi(2) test for trend; P=.02). When serum antibody levels were examined as continuous variables, children who were homozygous at certain loci tended to have lower mean antibody levels. These results suggest that lack of HLA diversity may limit the range of peptides that can be presented to antibody-producing cells, potentially resulting in a decreased immune response to viral infections.

The association of CD46, SLAM and CD209 cellular receptor gene SNPs with variations in measles vaccine-induced immune responses: a replication study and examination of novel polymorphisms.

BACKGROUND The measles virus (MV) interacts with two known cellular receptors: CD46 and SLAM. The transmembrane receptor CD209 interacts with MV and augments dendritic cell infection. METHODS 764 subjects previously immunized with measles-mumps-rubella vaccine were genotyped for 66 candidate SNPs in the CD46, SLAM and CD209 genes as part of a larger study. RESULTS A previously detected asso...

Should We Consider another Booster Dose of Measles Vaccine?

Background: To date, 36 years has passed since the beginning of measles vaccination; the disease is still circulating around the world, threatening lives of human beings especially in developing countries.  In recent years, we have confronted measles in previously vaccinated adults from all over the country. Objective: To find out if there is a need for changing our routine measles vaccination ...

HLA-DRB1, DQA1 and DQB1 Alleles and Hap-lotypes Frequencies in Iranian Healthy Adult Responders and Non-Responders to Recombi-nant Hepatitis B Vaccine

Background: Different studies have demonstrated that a small proportion of healthy individuals receiving the hepatitis B (HB) vaccine do not produce protective levels of anti-HB antibody, a phenomenon which could be linked to certain human leukocyte an-tigen (HLA) class-II alleles or haplotypes. Objectives: The present study was under-taken to determine the frequency of HLA class-II alleles in ...

Blocking Factors in Sspe Patients

Since the description of a case with "diffuse encephalitis with sclerosing inflammation of the hemisphere white matter" by Bodechtel and Guttman (1), there have been numerous reports that have indicated that measles virus is associated with this disease. Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) I occurs mostly in children and young adults as a slow progressive inflammatory disorder of the cen...

Associations between measles vaccine immunity and single-nucleotide polymorphisms in cytokine and cytokine receptor genes.

BACKGROUND Cytokines are key regulators of measles vaccine humoral and cellular immunity. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with differences in cytokine levels should also influence measles vaccine-induced immunity. METHODS We genotyped 118 measles-mumps-rubella-vaccinated subjects for SNPs from 6 cytokine genes (interleukin [IL]-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-12A, IL-12B, and in...
